FOWA 2009 London - Kevin Rose speech

I attended FOWA London 2009 and it was really helpful in understanding how to make websites popular.

Following are some of the key points taken from Kevin Rose(Digg) speech about how to take site from one to one million

  • Reward users : Give visible & emotional rewards to user users Ex: Leaderboard
  • Keep It Simple : Remove features from your site , rather than adding new ones
  • Release & Learn : Release features and learn from how users use them.Avoid over analysis.
  • Invite only system would make your webapp more popular
  • Talk to junior bloggers. They are more easily approachable than big & popular bloggers
  • Attend parties, networking events that you cant afford. and go there with 10 min demo of your webapp
  • Throw launch party, quarterly/yearly events.Invite press and people who can influence
  • Use your existing userbase to spread word about your site
  • Allow third party sites to access data using API
  • Do analyze site traffic. See whats working and whats not
